Overview
Embarking on the journey of independent living in a flat with friends, I encountered challenges in tracking my expenses. Reflecting on these experiences and discussions with cousins who, as new workers, faced similar financial management struggles, the necessity for a solution became apparent. Save Up emerges as a crucial ally in addressing these common challenges, designed to ease the complexities of budgeting, saving, and expense tracking. The app delivers essential support, providing users with a seamless solution to monitor recurring payments, track subscriptions, and attain a comprehensive understanding of their financial landscape
UX Research plan
To gain deeper insights into the financial challenges faced by individuals, particularly college students and working professionals, I initiated conversations and interviews. The objective was to understand their struggles with financial management, identifying specific pain points if they existed. Conversely, for those not facing such challenges, I sought to uncover their effective strategies and methods for managing finances.
Personas
After engaging in conversations with various individuals, I realized several points that had not initially crossed my mind:
-
Lack of clear labeling for expenditures.
-
Subscribed services that go unused, leading to forgotten unsubscriptions.
-
Difficulty in creating an effective budget due to untracked expenses

Empathy Mapping
In my commitment to deeply understand users and meet their needs during the design process, I also employed empathy mapping. This method helps me to address authentic user needs and relieve frustrations by gaining valuable insights into their motivations and pain points.

Ideation
Information Architecture
Following a thorough understanding of users, I initiated the visualization and data collection process, contemplating solutions with a focus on addressing the identified pain points.
I started the development of a hierarchy and generated various features through brainstorming to address the users' pain points effectively.

Task Flow
To better understand of user task execution and identify the steps involved, I devised task flows to guarantee a convenient and streamlined task completion experience

Wireframes
I attempted to conceptualize the app's appearance and generated low-fidelity wireframes.
Overall Transactions: This feature aims to provide a comprehensive view of user expenditures across various categories such as food, groceries, and shopping. Users can seamlessly switch between different credit cards or preferred payment methods to assess expenditures associated with each card. Users also have the option to toggle between monthly, yearly, and overall transaction views, providing comprehensive insights into their financial activities.

Home Page: Displays a comprehensive list of subscriptions, whether active or nearing expiration. This feature serves as an alert system, reminding users to renew subscriptions if desired or cancel if necessary. It offers a convenient way for users to keep track of their various subscriptions.

Add Payment: Introducing the ability to add a credit/debit card to the application, enabling synchronization and analysis of all expenses, including subscription costs. This feature provides a centralized view of all expenditures linked to the added payment method.

Establishing a Design system
After reaching a consensus on the visual aesthetics, I opted for a design system to maintain uniformity across all screens, streamlining the development process.

My Learnings
Embarking on my first individual UX/UI project was both overwhelming and exhilarating, especially delving into the intricate realm of finance. It quickly became apparent that thorough research was essential for a meaningful design. Every option, every feature demanded proof through research, ensuring it not only made logical sense but also resonated with the end users.

In the world of UX design, it became clear that my assumptions or personal inclinations couldn't solely guide the process. Success lay in a constant dialogue with users, gauging whether the design choices resonated with their needs and preferences. It was a humbling realization that the user's perspective is important, steering the design process towards functionality and user satisfaction. This experience reinforced the importance of empathy, user-centered design, and the continual pursuit of understanding and meeting the user's expectations.
